About Emma Versluys
Emma Versluys is a Belgian artist, based in The Netherlands. From a young age she has been busy with exploring diverse
artforms. From theatre, visual arts and dance to performance art. In 2017 she started her studies at Fontys Hogeschool voor de kunsten, where she graduated in 2021 with a degree in Contemporary dance. Since then she has been working as a dancer, performer, visual artist and maker.
As a maker she has been in residence at Productiehuis Nowhere with Peeled Collective in Amasterdam 2022, The Katja
Heitmann studio in Tilburg in 2022, Up Circus Space in Brussels in 2022, Makershuis Tilburg with Peeled Collective at
DansBrabant in Tilburg 2022, Theater aan de Rijn with Peeled Collective in Arnhem in 2023, Korzo with Peeled Collective in
2023, Makershuis Tilburg with Peeled Collective at DansBrabant in Tilburg in 2024.
Emma's work and interest evolves around what it means to be human. To her, it can often feel confusing, disturbing and
uncomfortable to see how the humanworld in functioning. Through her work she tries to understand the world around her.
She attempts to find comfort by questioning exacltly that, that feels too often foreign to her. What does it mean, to be human?
Her work takes on different shapes, but always starts from herself and her relation to a topic. From detailed ballpoint pen
drawings, to painting to installation work to performance work.
